A member of a renovation crew was killed Tuesday on Milwaukee’s west side when he was struck by a refrigerator his co-workers tossed from the fourth floor of the building they were working on.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Rafal Mariusz Chmura. According to a police spokesperson, the workers who threw the refrigerator said they yelled down to the ground but didn’t hear a response, so they thought the area was clear.
Chmura apparently stepped into the path of the refrigerator as it fell. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chmura immigrated to the United States 15 years ago to build a better life for his family. After working as a mechanic and construction laborer, Chmura was able to move his family from Poland to the U.S.
