One family believes it is their relative. According to the family, Elin Etienne, a 71-year-old resident at the facility, went missing about two weeks prior to the discovery of the body.

Etienne’s family say a brain aneurysm he suffered this past August necessitated him being placed in long-term care. On August 22, Etienne went missing from North Dade Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, the facility where he had been placed. North Miami Police waited a day before issuing a missing person alert for him.

In a news report, Etienne’s granddaughter said the facility did not contact them after they found the body. They found out about the discovery from an anonymous caller.

Even once the family learned about the body and contacted the Center, they were not allowed to see the body. Other staff at the facility allegedly refused to speak to the family.

As of Wednesday, the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office said the body had yet to be identified. Police say an investigation into the man’s death is ongoing. North Dade Nursing & Rehabilitation Center declined to make any comment.
