Since Takata Corp. announced in May that almost 34 million vehicles would be recalled for defective airbags, consumers have been left in the dark as to which vehicles are included in the nations largest and most complicated auto recall in history.
This week the 11 affected automakers have finally identified all of the 33.8 million vehicles that are to be included in the recall. All vehicles will be added to a searchable database where consumers can check to see if their vehicle is included.
Our Takata airbag attorneys have been monitoring this situation from the very beginning and are prepared to represent those who have been injured or died as a result of these faulty safety devices. Call 414-333-3333 today for a free consultation.
Just this week Toyota and Honda included an additional 2.76 million vehicles to be added to their ever-growing list of vehicles equipped with the violently exploding airbag that can send shards of metal throughout the passenger compartment.
The defective products have been linked to seven deaths and more than 100 injuries. Two of the deaths occurred in the last year, as recently as April 2015.
Consumers should be eager to check if their vehicle is included in the recall. However, if their vehicle is included, they could have to wait several weeks or even months before a replacement is available.
Takata has struggled to keep pace with the huge demand for replacement parts, even announcing that it will increase production.
Adding further insult to injury, consumers cannot be confident that the replacement airbags from Takata are safe. Numerous airbags that have already been replaced will have to be replaced again because they were made with the same volatile inflator as the original.
Additionally, Takata, regulators and manufacturers have not been able to identify the root cause of the problem.
